Struggles in Indonesia

After almost 8 months of traveling in Asia, we look back on different learnings for each country visited. The Indonesian chapter has brought us many struggles, and we had to handle misfortunes and push ourselves to get out from the negative mindset. Coming from the authentic treehouse in Malaysia, we were overwhelmed by the mass tourism, the extrem heat and humidity in Bali. It is still an undeniably beautiful island, rich in culture and art. The volunteer work in the durian farm turned out to be a disappointment because it is not organic and we decided to leave earlier than planned as we don’t find it healthy or meaningful. Then we received the heartbreaking news that Pong Pong, an injured cat we worked so hard to save in Malaysia, died anyways… she was such a sweet soul to us and so many others. The sadness and anger was hard to shake off (for Shiwen). But the vast nature is so calming and healing, makes me realize how small we are; I should let go of things I can’t control and focus on the things I should be so grateful for. If it wasn’t for the farm we would not have discovered so many authentic and local places in Bali. Saving Pong Pong taught me that not all good wills end well but the most important thing is we tried our best. 🥹🙏
